Spectral Voice’s second full-length album, Sparagmos, is a significant release under Dark Descent Records. The title, referencing a Dionysian ritual, explores life, death, and raw essence.
The album teeters between lamentation and joy, combining a morose atmosphere longing for death’s liberation with moments of frenzy, grandeur, and terror. Drummer/Vocalist E. Wendler sees it as a celebration of life through death.
Drawing from diverse influences, including death, black, doom metal, dark ambient, and arcane literature, Spectral Voice creates a unique sound. The band, M. Kolontyrsky (guitar), P. Riedl (guitar), and J. Barrett (bass) – also of Blood Incantation fame – alongside the drummer/vocalist E. Wendler, surpasses their own high standards.
Sparagmos unquestionably stands as a definitive death metal highlight of 2024.
