Hailing from Toronto, COPROLITH formed in 2023 and promptly released their debut demo, which ME SACO UN OJO released on vinyl early the next year. While that demo was undeniably a promising start, the quintet dive deeply into an abyss that’s heavier, more doomed, and most definitely darker with their debut album, Putrescence.
Truly titled, Putrescence is a vast landscape of rot and dread. COPROLITH illustrate this landscape with a bounty of the very best sounds of the very early ’90s: DEATH METAL, tried and true, but stirring within their cauldron is the tank-like bludgeon of Grave, the monolith pulse of Demigod, and the sepulchral tendrils of Incantation. That the Canadians splice & sluice those ingredients to their diabolical design shows both a lifer’s understanding of these foundational sounds and, more so, a will to honor this tradition with fiercely focused personality – keenly knowing what’s between the slimy exoskeleton and its rotten underbelly, so to speak. And the fact that all but one of the album’s six tracks stretch well beyond the five-minute mark shows that there’s charred, challenging vistas being explored along the way…
