Spectral Voice’s second full-length album, Sparagmos, is a significant release under Dark Descent Records. The title, referencing a Dionysian ritual, explores life, death, and raw essence.

The album teeters between lamentation and joy, combining a morose atmosphere longing for death’s liberation with moments of frenzy, grandeur, and terror. Drummer/Vocalist E. Wendler sees it as a celebration of life through death.

Drawing from diverse influences, including death, black, doom metal, dark ambient, and arcane literature, Spectral Voice creates a unique sound. The band, M. Kolontyrsky (guitar), P. Riedl (guitar), and J. Barrett (bass) – also of Blood Incantation fame – alongside the drummer/vocalist E. Wendler, surpasses their own high standards.

Sparagmos unquestionably stands as a definitive death metal highlight of 2024.

“Since the crypt of SV was first opened circa the miserable Winter MMXII, a lone full length, five rehearsal promos, multiple 7” split EPs, and one infamous demo have been released. SV’s Death/Doom has been slowly rotting across the USA & Europe for years, putrefying the road alongside allies such as SEMPITERNAL DUSK, UNDERGANG, BLOOD INCANTATION, ANATOMIA, PRIMITIVE MAN, SUPERSTITION, MORTIFERUM, DEMILICH, HYPERDONTIA, GRAVE MIASMA, FLOWERING BLADE & KRYPTS.

For the first time, all official non-album material is finally available in one place, in dedication towards all cultists and gloomy fanatics who have supported THE SPECTRAL VOICE since the early years of these recordings. The self-released LP “Necrotic Demos” contains the original “Necrotic Doom” demo and all tracks from the out-of-print split EPs. Dark Descent Records present the Compact Disc edition as a digipak with bonus track, and Extremely Rotten Productions have regurgitated the European edition on vinyl and cassette, with additional bonus material. Over 40 minutes of primitive & raw SLOW ROTTING DEATH DOOM.”

The title itself, alluding to the Dionysian rite of being torn limb from limb, sets the stage for a profound exploration of life, death, and the untamed essence within.

“The content of the album oscillates between lamentation and exaltation. An immersive, morbid atmosphere of funereality longs for the liberation of death and mourns the agony of life. Coupled with moments of frenetic madness, grandeur, terror and ecstasy, the point we are trying to get to is the moment in which – through sacrifice – atavistic wildness is unleashed, and the ultimate exaltation of life through death is realized,” reflects drummer/vocalist E. SPECTRAL VOICE – Eroded Corridors of Unbeing CD (Restock)

After no less than five demos/rehearsals and two splits, Colorado’s SPECTRAL VOICE are finally crossing the Styx and delivering their first proper full-length…and it is gigantic. While things appear quite straight-forward on paper (the band has never hidden their love of roughly mixing early and down tuned Finnish death metal with extreme doom in an acid bath) there’s something quite unique about them. Instead of weakening their impact, their rawness and vast sound only emphasizes their genuine thirst for darkness.

Like a lurker oozing with evil intentions, SPECTRAL VOICE like to remain in the shadow. There, they’ve patiently learned from their elders, only to regurgitate their own brand of extreme death/doom. For instance, ‘Visions of Psychic Dismemberment’ is an eleven-minute long trip into the darkest regions of our collective mind, where UNHOLY’s trippiest moments join INCANTATION for a dance around the fire. The opening blast beat sequence in ‘Lurking Gloom’ on the top of bleak arpeggios will fire up most dISEMBOWELMENT freaks. Far more than just a sum of its parts, ‘Eroded Coridors of Unbeing’ is a unique and claustrophobic voyage, cavernous yet full of clarity. Here, SPECTRAL VOICE is the sound of one’s soul going further down the abyss…and they’re taking you with them.
